1. Where to look
Private listings on Lemown Motors are typically 5–15% cheaper than a forecourt price. Dealers offer more consumer protection but at a premium.
2. Documents to check
V5C-equivalent (VRC), current NCT certificate, service history, and a clear tax record. Ask for the log book (V5) or Cartell/Motorcheck report for anything worth over €5,000.
3. Inspect it in person
Cold engine, dry drive, tyres, tyres (again), brakes, lights, boot floor for rust, service book stamps. Take an experienced friend or pay for an AA/RAC inspection.
4. Test drive
Insurance for a test drive is the seller’s responsibility (they should be present). Drive on both town and dual-carriageway conditions.
5. Paying safely
Bank transfer or bank draft on collection, in person, once you’ve verified the paperwork. Cash is fine for lower-value vehicles. Never send money in advance.
