What each platform is
Facebook Marketplace is a feature inside Facebook. It requires a Facebook account, and listings are visible to Facebook users in the region you select. Lemown is a dedicated Irish marketplace app and website; you sign in with email, Apple ID or Google, and listings are filtered to Irish counties by default.
Sign-in and account model
Facebook Marketplace uses your Facebook profile. Lemown uses a separate Lemown account that is not linked to any social network. Which you prefer depends on how you want your marketplace activity to relate to the rest of your online identity.
Geographic focus
Facebook Marketplace is a global product. Lemown is an Ireland-only product. If you want to see only Irish listings by default, that’s Lemown’s stated focus (see the Marketplace, Motors, Rentals and Services categories).
Listing fees and payments
At the time of writing, both platforms allow free listings for private sellers, and neither processes payments — buyer and seller settle directly. Facebook offers paid boosts on some listings; Lemown does not currently offer paid boosts to private sellers. Both providers can change these terms over time.
Business features
Facebook offers Pages and business tools tied to a Facebook Page. Lemown Business offers a Verified Business Badge and a dedicated Business Profile inside the marketplace, billed as a monthly subscription. Businesses may use either or both.
Moderation and safety tools
Both platforms allow user reports and blocking. Facebook applies its site-wide community standards. Lemown’s in-app reports let a moderator review the specific reported conversation. Both approaches are common.
Which suits your trade?
The right platform depends on what you’re trading, whether you already use Facebook, and what audience you want to reach. Cross-listing on both platforms is a legitimate strategy for higher-value items.
