1. Courier fraud
A "buyer" insists on sending a courier and prepaying by wire. The courier never comes; the wire never lands. Rule: no local marketplace ever needs a courier.
2. Overpayment scam
The buyer sends "too much" by "mistake" and asks you to refund the difference. The original payment turns out to be fake; your refund is real.
3. Fake payment confirmation
A screenshot of a "payment sent". Screenshots are worthless. Only your own banking app is proof.
4. Phishing links
"Click here to confirm payment." The link is a fake page that steals your login. Never click links from strangers.
5. Fake escrow
"Let’s use safe-escrow-secure.com." It doesn’t exist. Real escrow is rare in Irish private trades.
6. Ghost listings
A property or high-value item at a suspiciously low price. When you enquire, you’re asked to wire a deposit sight-unseen.
Frequently asked questions
How do I report a scam on Lemown?
Tap the Report action on the listing, profile or conversation. Moderators review the specific reported thread and can suspend abusers.
Does Lemown ever hold money in escrow?
No. Lemown doesn’t process payments at all — all money flows directly between buyer and seller — which is why in-person meetings are so important.
Can I trust a screenshot of a bank transfer?
No. Only your own banking app showing the funds landed is proof.
